PostHeaderIcon my friend come from germany in 1955 what about green card?

she came from germany in 1955 new green card 1959 no exp. date has all doc.pasport green card no date. birth cer.does she still need to get a new green card.

That the old Green Cards did not have an expiration date was, in retrospect, an unfortunate oversight that has since been remedied. So yes, your friend needs to get a new card. Hers administratively expired via an official notification published in the US Federal Register. If she has maintained her LPR status, she may replace her existing card with a card that must be renewed every 10 years.

I thought you had to renew those green cards every so often? I could be wrong though.

They are about to put in place a rule to require all with undated green cards to renew them. I’m sorrry to say it, but I think there already IS a rule that those issued before1970 be updated. She should go to uscis.gov about this.

NOPE, she was issued a permanent green card status under a different set of rules. She should double check with someone up on current law however as I am no longer current.

Post WWII there were different rules about long term residents from overseas.
